Although this is obvious many people find themselves at the mercy of vets only after their beloved pet gets ill and they don't know what to do, but there are in for a shock of their lives.

The thing is this the cost of a vet is determine by a number of factors, for example in most countries if you not working and getting government support then the cost of a vet is free to you and in some cases a small donation is required and that is all well and good for them.

However, there is another scenario where there are people working for minimal wages and there are people who work for top wages, there also those lucky few who don't have to go to work at all and can afford vet bills and that is great for them.

The thing is that at the two ends of this equation are people who do not work and in the middle are those who do work, but the problem is that everyone has to pay the same prices to the vet, but to my reasoning it is only the people on low income and have pets that are really meant to suffer from vet cost, why this should be so I really don't know.

Although it may be an impractical idea I personally think that all health care whether it is for pets or humans should free, imagine people and pets dying because you can't afford to pay to get a cancer remove when it can be avoided.

A bigger issue is that these ridiculous prices have risen dramatically in the past 30 years or so and is continuing to rise daily although they might argue that the rise in prices are due to the more advance diagnostics equipment and medications.

According to the American pet products manufacturers association visits to vets can start from between $500 to $800 for cats and dogs respectfully.

If that does not alarm you then you will be in for a shock when the vet tells you that your beloved friend needs a knee operation or worse that they have cancer, which will cost you $5000 to $7000 respectfully, a situationthat I recently found myself in.

These ridiculous prices have resulted in a decrease in the number of people registered with vets and as a result these vets came up with a scam that involves making a more money from fewr clients.

So in order for them to be financially profitable they have to charge more per client and get them to come in more often.

The bottom line is this vet fees are ridiculously high and if you have or thinking about getting a pet then consider getting pet insurance, some of you might be thinking that you can't afford health insurance for yourself let alone for a pet, but compared to vet cost pet insurance is a steal.

Although I hate to admit it I use to think the same way, but recently I had to change because one of my Rottweilers stopped eating, I thought that he had just gone off his food so I tried changing his food, bought him tonics, medicines, etc, in the hope that he would be back to his normal self in a few days.

It appeared that some things seemed to work, but then he would stop eating again and this went on for a few weeks. I tried everything because I knew that I could not afford a vet.

However, I finally gave in and took him to the vet, but I was not prepared for what came next as they told me that it would be around $250 to be seen and that does not include the treatments or return visits.

If that wasn't bad enough the vet diagnosed him with cancer, which is why he stopped eating and so I was looking at thousands, fortunately and/or unfortunately the cancer was to large and the vet gave a few days to live and recommended that he be put to sleep there and then to stop him from suffering.

The moral of the story is that you should always be prepared for the unexpected, if I had pet insurance and taking him to the vet regular maybe they would have caught it early and he would be alive today if I had asked the question how much is a vet? I would have gotten pet insurance.
